Zuni- FRANK DISHTA
(1902-1954)
Frank Dishta began to silversmith in 1924 and quickly became a master of the channel inlay technique. He was born on the Zuni Pueblo where he was influenced by some of the greatest inlay artists of the Southwest.
Frank Dishta developed a unique style of intricate channel inlay work composed of tiny turquoise circles and teardrops set in plain bezels that were ground flush, he favoured Lone Mountain turquoise.
He began producing in 1924-25 and continued until his untimely death in 1954. Dishta worked for trader CG Wallace who was instrumental in promoting the Art of the Zuni during the 1930-40s. Dishta was well represented in the 1975 Sotheby auction of the “CG Wallace Collection” which brought “record breaking” prices for Native American jewelry.
His works are highly sought after by collectors around the world and continue to increase in value. His works are on permanent display at the Heard Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico and is shown nationwide at other museums and galleries.
The DISHTA family have continued his legacy & produce works today that are reminiscent of this Zuni masters creations.
