Navajo Second Phase Belt c 1900-1910
This Navajo Second Phase Belt c 1900-1910 was sold at the SOTHEBY’S Auction New York October 17, 1996.
Composed of 7 oval ingot silver conchos, each with brass suspension loops, pierced and scolloped border, tooled ropework and serrated repousse’d rosette conchs. A large square sandcast buckle, with hooked flanges on each side, backed and mounted on commercial leather.
This belt has bigger than normal Conchos. The earlier c.1880’s second phase belts Concho’s tend to be smaller. More typical of a later belt c 1900-1910 are repoussee’d rosettes in centre verses the 1880’s. with lower/flatter repoussee’d profile on earlier second phases
