Navajo Second Phase Belt c 1900-1910
This Navajo Second Phase Belt c 1900-1910 was purchased at the SOTHEBY’S Auction in New York on October 17, 1996.
The belt is composed of 7 oval ingot silver conchos, each with brass suspension loops, pierced and scolloped border, tooled ropework and serrated repousse’d rosette conchs.  A large square sand-cast buckle, with hooked flanges on each side, backed and mounted on commercial leather.
The earlier c.1880’s second phase belts Concho’s tend to be smaller. More typical of a later belt c 1900-1910 are repoussee’d rosettes in the centre versus the 1880s. With lower/flatter repoussee’d profile on earlier second phases
