Historic Slendermaker Of Silver

Many of the Navajo silversmiths origins can be traced back to “Slender Maker of Silver” on the Navajo reservation in the 1880s-1890s. He was also the first significant Silversmith to be recognized.
Provenance-Hurbert Wellington purchased this Necklace with a group of material which had as a provenance-Marion Kenworthy who was a philanthropist working in the Southwest providing Medical help to Native people circa 1900-1920. She had given many pieces to the Museum of the American Indian. This necklace is a great example showing most of the construction qualities of the necklace documented in the Wheelwright Museum Santa Fe, New Mexico. The filing of the naja, the size and expertise of the seamless ingot silver beads, everything about this work is precision of craftsmanship at its finest.
