Kiowa Peyote Rattle Earrings c.1940’s

These Kiowa Peyote Rattle Earrings are rather special.  The peyote rattle was played during Native American Church ceremonies, which combine Native and Christian beliefs.  The Plains Indian jewellery was never made for tender, only for ceremonial purposes.

At some point the hook has been converted to silver

The waterbird image is stamped onto the rattle.
